Is there a free window sticker lookup?
Yes. This one. Enter a VIN and the original factory Monroney label opens as a PDF. No account, no email address, no card, and no cap on how many you look up. 16 makes return the manufacturer’s own file, which is roughly 53% of US new-vehicle sales.
The catch is coverage, and it is a real one. Toyota retired public access in 2026 and Honda never offered it, so the other 47% get a full specification decode instead of a label — brand by brand, here is what we tested.
It stays free because it costs about $0.0000027 to serve a sticker on Cloudflare, and a given VIN’s label never changes, so a manufacturer is contacted once per VIN and never again.
Specifications come from NHTSA vPIC, fuel economy from fueleconomy.gov, and crash ratings from NHTSA NCAP. The label itself has been required since 1958 under 15 U.S.C. § 1232.

Is this actually free?
Yes. No account, no email, no credits, no card. A lookup costs about $0.0000027 to serve on Cloudflare, so there is nothing to recover. The catch, if you want one, is coverage — sixteen makes return a factory PDF and the rest do not.
Is this the original sticker or a recreation?
The original. We request the label the manufacturer filed against that VIN and hand you the PDF unmodified, so the option pricing is what the factory printed. Some paid services rebuild the layout from option codes instead, which gets close but is not the document.
Which makes return a real factory PDF?
Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Ford, Lincoln, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai and Genesis. That is 16 makes, roughly 53% of the US market. Every other VIN returns a full NHTSA specification decode instead. Toyota retired public access in 2026; Honda never offered it.
Does it work on a used car?
Usually. The label is filed against the VIN rather than against the sale, so it stays retrievable long after the car changes hands. That is the point — the sticker itself was peeled off the glass years ago. Very new vehicles sometimes have no label yet, and very old ones eventually drop off.
Where do I find my VIN?
Driver-side dashboard, readable through the windshield from outside. It is also on the door jamb sticker, your insurance card, the registration and the title. Seventeen characters, and it never contains the letters I, O or Q.
Is a window sticker the same as a build sheet?
Close, but different documents. A build sheet is the factory assembly record: option codes, no prices. The Monroney label is the consumer document — the same options with what each one cost, plus EPA fuel economy, crash-test ratings and parts content. Most people searching for one want the other.
What if nothing comes back for my VIN?
Three usual reasons. The car is new enough that its label has not been filed yet. It is old enough that the manufacturer retired it. Or it was never sold in the United States, and Monroney labels are a US requirement, so Canadian and grey-market cars have none. A typo normally fails the check digit before it gets that far.
