What works today
Manufacturers publish their own labels, and not all of them do it publicly. Here is the honest picture rather than a promise we cannot keep.
Makes that return a factory label
Each source below with the model years it answers for, and the last day we saw it return a label for a real VIN, in our own tests or a visitor’s lookup. The status page re-tests every source at least once a day.
GM’s own service, with the RPO option codes. It drops some VINs intermittently, and a miss usually clears on a retry later.
Model years: Recent model years; our test vehicles are 2023 to 2025. A model year still being built often has no label yet. Last confirmed .
Ford’s own service. For a Ford or Lincoln you already own, Ford sells a reprint of the original for 2008 and later through Ford Show Parts.
Model years: New vehicles only: “currently in production, recently delivered, or … a new vehicle on a Ford Dealer’s lot”, in Ford’s words. Last confirmed .
Stellantis’s own service, the steadiest source we use, with full package pricing.
Model years: No cutoff found; tested 2017 to 2026. Last confirmed .
Published by Subaru directly. Every option package and accessory priced individually, plus port of assembly.
Model years: Recent model years; tested 2023 to 2026. Subaru refuses older ones, a 2017 among them. Last confirmed .
Generated from the factory build record, with every option priced individually and the port of entry printed.
Model years: No cutoff found; tested 2021 to 2026, used cars included. Last confirmed .
One service covers both brands.
Model years: Back to about the 2019 model year. Last confirmed .
Toyota’s own label, through a dealer-website platform’s service: Toyota closed its own public access in 2026. A Toyota or Lexus dealer can print an older one from the VIN.
Model years: 2025 model year and newer, sold cars included. Last confirmed .
Nissan’s copy of the factory label, stamped “Unofficial Copy”, through the same dealer-website platform’s service. It carries everything the label does: MSRP, every option and its price, fuel economy.
Model years: About 2014 on. Last confirmed .
Everything else
As of we have found no public new-vehicle label endpoint for Honda, Acura, Mazda, Volkswagen, Tesla or the European luxury makes, and none for a Toyota older than the 2025 model year. Honda only ever distributed labels through its internal dealer system. The reasons are per-brand and we publish what we tested.
That list is a record of what we have tested, not a claim about what exists. Subaru sat on it until August 2026, and Kia, Hyundai and Genesis sat on it until 9 September 2026 — in every case the endpoint had been public the whole time. If you know of a working source for any make above, the API is open and we will add it.
So for those VINs we assemble what public records can tell you, free:
- Full specification decode — year, make, model, trim, body, engine, transmission, assembly plant (NHTSA vPIC)
- EPA fuel economy — city, highway, combined, annual fuel cost and CO₂ per mile (fueleconomy.gov)
- Crash-test ratings — overall, frontal, side and rollover stars (NHTSA NCAP)
- Open recalls for that year, make and model
That is most of what a window sticker tells you. What it cannot give you is the original MSRP and the exact options this vehicle was built with — that only exists on the factory label. Other sites will sell you a “window sticker” for these makes; those are recreations generated from build data, and we would rather show you sourced public records than a document dressed up as the original.
Why a VIN can come back empty
- Too new. The label is filed when the vehicle is built; a car in transit may not have one yet.
- Too old. Manufacturers retire labels after a period that varies by brand.
- Not a US vehicle. Monroney labels are a US requirement. Canadian and grey-market cars have none.
- Typo. Check the ninth character — a wrong one usually fails the check digit.
Common questions
Which makes return an original factory window sticker?
Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai, Genesis, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan and Infiniti. That is 20 makes; Toyota and Lexus from the 2025 model year on, and Ford and Lincoln only while a vehicle is new. Each returns the manufacturer's own label rather than a recreation. For Nissan and Infiniti it is Nissan's copy, stamped "Unofficial Copy".
Why only newer Toyotas, and no Honda?
Toyota closed its own public window-sticker access in 2026. Toyota and Lexus labels from the 2025 model year on still come back through a dealer-website platform’s service; older ones are not there. Honda and Acura never had a public service — dealers print originals from an internal system.
What do I get if my make is not covered?
A full NHTSA vPIC specification decode — year, make, model, trim, body style, engine, transmission, drive type and assembly plant — plus EPA fuel economy, crash-test ratings and any open recalls. What it cannot give you is the original MSRP and the exact factory options, which only exist on the label itself.
Is this list going to change?
It has three times since August 2026. Subaru was listed as having no public source until its endpoint turned out to have been open the whole time. Kia, Hyundai and Genesis were added on 9 September, and Toyota, Lexus, Nissan and Infiniti on 21 September. The list records what has been tested, not what exists.
